Cold Beer....

Ever notice how cold beer makes you hot? I just don't get it and it seems so unfair.

Imagine this... it's a summertime 100 degrees in the Georgia sun. You are out shopping and you notice a dark icey looking Japanese restaurant sitting in the  middle of the strip mall's asphalt lake. Yum! Delicious! Delectable! The bamboo painteed on the glass door seems to waft to and fro and call, "Come to me, come to me..." You obey.

Inside, seating yourself at the sushi bar, you feel the sweat beginning to freeze into little droplets of ice as your eyes rest on the soft green and brown decor. You order California roll and a 20 ounce Sapporo. While the sushi chef busy's himself with his craft, your beer magically floats to your side in the hands of Non, your server, a wisp of a girl.

One slow sip. Then another not so slow. And a third that is long and deep. Ahhhhh......  Can anything be so good? So cold? So perfect? You rest. It's been a long hot day. One more really good swig and then...BAM!!!  It hits you. Your face flushes red, your palms warm up and suddenly you are sweating again!
You even feel it in the crook of your elbows!

Life is full of little surprises. But this!?! Why this?! I never get used to it... that wonderful, delicious cold of golden liquid washing through my whole body only to jolt me into its cruel joke of robbing the cool and returning the heat.

Cheers!!

  1. Isn’t it crazy when it’s so hot outside, and nothing really can cool you down? It will be like 100 degrees out, you come in and take a cold shower, and right when you think that water can’t get any colder, you step out of the shower, only to find you are still sweating. I hate it. I hate when you have the air on full blast and the fan is hitting you and you are still hot. I hate when you come in to eat and you are sweating as you eat your meal. That’s the worst! This Georgia heat is relentless at times, and it’s quite awful when you just can’t seem to escape it (without rain coming in, but there goes Six Flags). To be quite honest though, I’m not sure if a cold beer has this effect on me. I mean, one cold beer typically makes me cold, and like 4 beers (before college) or 12 beers (after 3 years of college) is what would probably warm me up due to the alcohol content, but then again, not really. I will say the one time I remember actually getting extra warm while drinking only one or two beers was the first time I drank beer…and I was sitting in a hot tub. That story involves several shots of other alcoholic drinks and a terrible next morning, but my memory isn’t quite great about that night, and maybe there was never a beer in the first place.

  2. Ah, yes... those "terrible next mornings"... I gave them up some time back. Just not worth it anymore. Now I am a 2 beers, or anything else kinda' girl. Except for champagne. Beer, etc. just makes me sleepy, but more than 2 champagnes make me cute long before I get sleepy. Here's lookin' at you!!..... Prost...
